Results:-.6 Months Protective Style Challenge

Image
Hey friend, Would you believe 6months have passed and the challenge has ended? Me neither!! It felt soo long but it also flew by!!  Would you also believe me when I tell you that I didn't do any length measurements before the challenge? Yep! So what was the point, you may ask. Well, I embarked on the challenge to give my hair some time to get healthy, not necessarily for the length. My edges needed some TLC also.  I enjoyed challenging myself to keep my hands out of my hair, using minimal products and find a protective style that I can always go for. I did medium braids, yarn locs, mini braids, mini twists, African threading, flat twists and loved the versatility and time I reclaimed during the challenge.  I also kept my regimen simple by shampooing, conditioning and using either mousse or cream as my styler. That's it! I  also didn't touch or manipulate my edges unless it was washday. However, after recreating my go-to wash-and-go ponytail, I noticed that my hair was a bi

6 Month Protective Style Challenge

Hey lovelies, Yes, you read that right! I'm starting a 6month protective style challenge. Oooo it's gonna be a loooong six months for me. The thing is, I love styling my hair and I easily get bored with a style, so this is definitely going to be a challenge for me. Let's get into my action plan. Main Style I installed some large braids with no extensions. Now, I have been on a no extension journey for over 3years now and I feel like I am appreciative of my hair more. I found that I neglect my hair less when it's not wrapped around extensions because I can see and feel what it needs easily. I first sectioned off my parts with rubber bands so that the braiding process would go faster. Ey I tell you, it's not easy parting your hair yourself, so if some of the parts don't look straight, meh, I tried😂 Maintenance   I'm aiming to wash my hair every 2weeks or even earlier, if I feel that my hair needs it. With regards to refreshing, I'm going to push till at

Life Update!

Hey lovelies, It's been more than a minute!! Thanks for sticking around, I appreciate it! Your girl has been busy with life since my last blog. She done got married and can be found busy chasing her toddler and rocking 6month old baby to sleep haha 😄  Back to hair, I have experienced a lot in my hair journey in the past 3yrs. My hair got thicker and longer. Could it be less manipulation since I didn't have time or energy from pregnancies or could it baby hormones? I'm still not sure.  However, I have also gone through postpartum shedding twice. To be honest, I'm still recovering from both episodes. But it seems like this second round really hit me. I've noticed thinning in some sections. My edges fell out but are starting to come back. Now there's a couple of factors that I'm grappling with, to explain the thinning. At the start of the year, I did the #30dayhairdetox and haven't looked back since. (That will be a blog for another day haha). The product

Hair-lo lovelies! It's 4 weeks until Christmas!! Seems like it has come early for my hair as I got to know of another Australian-based hair product line! AfroShe®  is an all natural, handmade, chemical-free hair and skin care line that is based in Melbourne (Australia). The product line is suitable for babies to adults and all hair types including Afro and Caucasian hair. Since I am more interested in hair care than skin care, I sampled a combo of their hair product line in a typical wash day and styling and these are my results. AfroShe®  Detangler Cleanser Conditioner- with coconut and avocado oil. This product was great in making my hair soft and easy to detangle. I loved how it had avocado oil and vitamin E oil (among other ingredients) as these are staples in the products that I already use. I sectioned my hair and applied the conditioner before finger detangling. I followed through with a wide-toothed comb and then twisted the section before working on the next. I rin

Hey y'all, Hope you are keeping well :) As most naturals in Australia can testify, it's hard to find products suitable for our hair here. The big brand names are mostly limited to America and shipping is very expensive when one decides to buy these products. So I was pleased to know of a health-conscious hair care line based in Melbourne, Australia so of course I had to try the range. MoistureLover products are plant-based and the founder is a biotechnologist. This is how I used the products on a typical washday after having clarified my hair with a shampoo. The MoistureLover range Deep conditioner This product contains vitamin e, castor oil and wheat germ protein. As I identify with low porosity, I wore a plastic cap and a heated cap for 30mins to help the product penetrate my hair. After washing it out, my hair felt a bit dryer than the other times I deep condition with my usual concoction. However, I put this down to the wheat germ protein as I've

Hey lovelies! I finally washed my hair after putting it off for too long! Yes, it's actually an achievement I gotta document. Hear me out, okay. So, if you're following me on Instagram, you probably know by now that I recently had surgery (11 days ago). Now, everyday duties were a pain (literally) and all I could do was lie on my left side for pretty much a week. But God! I am recovering much faster than I had anticipated and today I managed to sit for the first time since the surgery. So I had to blog! Anyways, back to hair-related stuff. I have had my hair in about 11 large braids for the past 2weeks and it desperately needed a wash.  I had already detangled my hair when I did the braids, so I decided not to undo the braids and just wash it as it is. (I'll do an extensive wash day when I'm much stronger). To clarify , I poured a small amount of the Garnier Fructis shampoo into the palm of my hand and used my fingers to apply the shampoo directly to my sc

Hey lovelies! It's been ages, I know I know! Life has been happening but I'm still on top of things. Now, as you may have seen on my Instagram page, little old me was made into a meme!! I was surprised to see how many Instagram pages shared the photo, the Twitter retweets and how many people related to the meme. While scrolling through the comments, I resonated with the majority of them and at the same time, I could sense that people didn't understand what the meme was saying. "I love this. Normalise this. I shouldn't have to gel my edges and baby hair down all the time for my hair to be accepted in society." The key word here for me was " all the time." You can gel your edges however times you want and whenever you want, BUT you shouldn't gel them because you feel like people will judge you for not doing so. The main culprits of 'judging' others are actually black people. We should learn to love each other regar
