My hair regimen and staple products

Image
Hey lovelies, It has been a while!I have been kept busy with some stuff but I haven't abandoned you guys. I hope this blog finds you in great health and wellbeing. It is starting to warm up in the southern hemisphere but I've been unfortunate to be working on the nice and sunny days so I haven't started enjoying the summer as yet. (sorry northern hemisphere lovelies, winter is coming). Anyways, I have had a number of people ask me of my regimen and what products I use for my hair. So, instead of answering people individually, I'll just outline it all here and hope this answers most of your questions :) First of all, I am a lazy natural so I do keep my products to a minimum and if I can simplify any step in my regimen, I go for it. Don't judge me for it, time is too precious ;) Wash Day I use shampoo probably about 3 times a year. I mainly co wash my hair once every week or 2 weeks, depending on the style I will be rocking at that particular time. If I

Mini Braids take-down process

Image
Hey lovelies! I hope this blog finds you well. As my previous post promised, I'm going to document the take-down process of the mini braids I had. I kept them in for 6 weeks (slowly claps for myself) which is amazing coz I rarely keep in styles for that long. I was putting off the take-down process that I even started doing yarn wraps on the individual braids so I could keep the style for another month (genius, I know). However, this process in itself was taking forever and I was halfway through my head when I was called for a job interview in the city.(on a Wednesday). I did go with the yarn braids tied into a low bun and you wouldn't even know that my hair was half done. With confidence that I was definitely getting the job, I decided to undo my hair that night, wash it and do a different protective style over the weekend. This is why I took them down before the 2 months was up, as I had stated. My yarn wraps done over mini braids (coz I was too lazy..and also wou

Mini braids: Installation and maintenance

Image
Hey lovelies! In my hair journey, I have noticed that my hair responds well when I keep my hands out of it. I have tried braids and twists with extensions but my favourite protective style is mini twists. But because mini twists are easy to install and take down, I always find myself unravelling one to check on the length, which is counterproductive. However, that is a subject of another blog post :) So, after doing some research, I decided to try mini braids just with my hair. My experience is probably somewhat similar to what other naturals have experienced so the pros and cons may tend to be the same. I have had them in for 5 weeks now and hope to keep them for longer. I have noticed a bit of growth at the roots. I will measure the growth when I finally take them down. Installation and maintenance: I braided my hair from the roots till about 1 inch from the ends. I then twisted the rest of the length for easier take down (I don't wanna lose my ends!). It is still ok if

Graduation Hair- styling mini braids

Image
Hey y'all, Hope you're well and counting down to spring (if you're in the southern hemisphere). Tomorrow is the first day of spring! (though the winter might try to still hang around here in Melbourne unfortunately lol). And spring means its GRADUATION SEASON AGAIN! So I have my own graduation coming in about a week's time. I bought my dress today and I'm super excited :-D... but the hairstyle is always a dilemma. As you probably know from my instagram post, I installed some mini braids with just my hair and I was (still am) planning to keep them for another 6 weeks since I have serious hands-in-hair syndrome (wish me luck there!). So I'm trying to find a way to style my mini braids in a way that they still would fit in the cap while maintaining their awesomeness. Graduation doesn't always mean you gotta have loose hair, I mean, people with locs still style them and stay awesome, so why can't I do that with my mini braids? So last night, I s

About me :)

Introduction, Hello and welcome to my blog! :) My name is Joanna, though I'm also known on social media as kerotsi. I am a 4c hair naturalista based in Melbourne, Australia. I have become a passionate advocate for all things pertaining to natural hair. I have always had natural hair so my hair journey may be different from other natural ladies as I've never had a "big chop" or "transitioned". I started doing my own hair in the sixth grade till now, and rarely get my hair done by someone else since I'm so used to doing it myself. I decided to start this blog to document my journey so I can keep myself on track and actually see progress (then I won't slack off lol). I'll post pictures of my hair progress, length checks, protective styles, pros and cons to this natural journey. Anywho, catch you later! xx Jo :)
